Christiansfeld is a UNESCO World Heritage Town
Christiansfeld is one of the three main towns in Kolding Municipality, and it is truly a place unlike any other. Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Christiansfeld is celebrated as the world’s best-preserved Moravian settlement.
Every year, thousands of visitors come to experience the town’s unique heritage and to taste the famous Christiansfeld honey cakes. But Christiansfeld offers much more than historic architecture and local delicacies. It is a vibrant and welcoming community where you can enjoy a high quality of life and all the essentials needed for everyday living.
The town is home to a strong sense of community, with a wide range of clubs, associations, and activities for all ages. Much of the local activity centres around the town’s community and sports centre, Cuben, which serves as a gathering place for sports, culture, and social life. Outside Cuben, you’ll find activity areas designed for play, exercise, and socialising, as well as a multi-purpose sports court. And just beyond the town limits, beautiful natural surroundings offer excellent opportunities for outdoor recreation.

Close to Christiansfeld lies the romantic historic garden Christinero, originally established in the 18th century and reopened in 2025 following an extensive restoration. A scenic pathway connects the historic town centre to the gardens, crossing the distinctive Droplet Bridge – an iconic local landmark that combines public art with everyday infrastructure.
Christiansfeld has become an increasingly popular place to live, and the town has grown in recent years with the development of new residential neighbourhoods and affordable housing options.
Founded in 1773 by the Moravian Church, whose members came from Germany, Christiansfeld was carefully planned and built on open land following the same principles as the first Moravian settlement in Herrnhut. Unlike most Danish towns, which evolved gradually over centuries, Christiansfeld was designed as a complete community from the outset. Most of the historic town centre was constructed between 1773 and 1812.
Today, Christiansfeld is both a living World Heritage Site and a thriving modern community. At the heart of the town stands the beautiful Moravian Church Hall, surrounded by many of the settlement’s most important historic buildings. Here, history and everyday life come together, creating a unique place to live, work, and belong.
