Maja Travelled the World – and Found Her Way Home to Kolding

Maja Bygvrå was born and raised in Kolding, but as a young woman, she couldn’t wait to leave. Since then, her career has taken her to many different places, both in Denmark and abroad.

Just to name a few: Copenhagen, Aarhus, Cape Town, Nepal, Langeland and Rejsby.

Moving back to Kolding with her family two years ago wasn’t really part of the plan. But as it turned out, it was exactly the right decision.

Familien har genopdaget Kolding-området bl.a. med naturen, fjorden og de mange tilbud til børn.

Ro, natur og nære relationer

After moving so many times, Maja and her husband realised what really mattered to them as a family with young children: peace and quiet, nature and close relationships. They found all of this in Sdr. Bjert, a local community with a strong sense of togetherness and a genuine willingness to get involved. And with three young children, having the grandparents nearby is another big advantage.

“There’s a sense of calm here, and plenty of room to just be. It’s easy to raise a family, and house prices mean you can shape your life in a completely different way.”
The family has rediscovered Kolding, from the beautiful natural surroundings of the fjord and the Stenderup forests to the many activities for children and the strong local community spirit.

One particular highlight was the Blue Bridge Music Festival in Sdr. Bjert, where volunteers created a truly special atmosphere and sense of community.
Today, Kolding is the family’s home base. Maja has also founded her own media company, Nomade Maja, and works from an office in the House of Innovation co-working space in the heart of Kolding.
